My husband had a diabetes blood test which involed a blood sample taken then was given a glucose drink then had another test 2 hrs later, results were that the C/K was very high can you explain this please?
Blood test for diabetes had the letters C/K on form what is this?Thank you?
C/K stands for Creatinine Kinase -it's an enzyme which monitors the risk of heart disease and is also indicative of some degree of insulin resistance in Type 2 Diabetes.
The tests you've described for your husband are Fasting Blood Sugar and a 2-hour post -prandial test.
The C/K is routinely done and assesses risks that are important for the doctor to know when treating your husband.
So don't be alarmed, you're in good hands.
Reply:Chances are this test was done routinely as your husband is liekly to be on a statin for cholesterol lowering. Unfortunately many GPs interpret this wrongly, and would discontinue the drug, but careful thought needs to be given as statin therapy in high risk groups is highly effective. If your husband is symptom free, ie no aches and pains, then I wouldn't be concerned.
Reply:Lots of info here.

Reply:it means that he HAS diabetes. i have to, and i have to take insulun injections 4 times a day. so, your husband cannot control his glucose level, because his pancreas(i think this is its name in english - an organ) is working inefficiently, badly or not at all. When he took that glucose drint, it boosted his glucose level up(hiperglicemy), which can be dangerous if it is kept that way for a long time. it can cause heart diseases, brain damage, impotence, blindness. so watch out! on the contrary, when this lvl falls very down, your husband enters hipoglicemy(maybe thats the good word:P ) which installs faster than the hiper and, he can even enter a coma, if it falls dangerously low.
so try to keep its level somewhere in the middle, and take care!

Reply:I think you need more information regarding that test! Call your doctor and ask for an explanation!
