Could C.O.D. be likened to test for dissolved oxygen in a water sample?

Is C.O.D (Chemical oxygen demand) the same as test for dissolved oxygen in a water sample?

Could C.O.D. be likened to test for dissolved oxygen in a water sample?
They are very different. DO is the amount of oxygen in water at a particular time. COD is the oxygen demand, the amount of oxygen needed (if there was an unlimited supply) to completely breakdown the material tested to CO2 and H2O. DO ranges from 0-~12 mg/L, while COD can be in the millions of mg/L or mg/kg.

In a river or other waterbody sample, they are only related in that a high COD will usually indicate a low DO. This is not a hard and fast rule, but a generality.
