I want to get a blood test for hep.C cause my friend gave me a tatoo?
First off, unless your friend bled, spit on any of your orifices or opened sores you might have..... or had sex with you ,then possibility of getting it from he/she giving you a tattoo is null.

YOU GET HEPc by injecting drugs with a used needle from an infected person, or being stuck by a dirty needle at work (medical, dental etc) or having sex with that person or exchanging body fluids with that person, having a few tat's myself, I know that a good and experienced tattoo artist doesn't do any of that...so just getting a tat from a hepC friend does not give the disease to you...however since you seem to want to get check anyhow, being 18 your parents can not under the law get your results...just let the doctor know that ONLY you can get the results and NOT to have anyone call or send information to your address.. hope you have a great day...and remember... you are NOT automatically infected just because the person has it...you must do something to get that person blood into your system. And I sure would hope that your friend would be professional at his/her art, if not then what the heck do you let he/she give you something so permanent?

UMMM spring ro.... why don't you tell my HUSBAND that then... because he's isn't and wasn't a needle user, never exposed to it work wise...and yet he still has it...oh and btw...sorry that you got it from your mother...thank god my kids didn't...wonder why that is? I sure had it when I was pregnant with both of them.... what does your research have to say about that?...NOT trying to be rude, but until you really know the facts as most doctors do, please do not tell people that you can't get it from sex....because my husband is proof you sure can... I hope that you take this as constructive rebutal not anyway typed to be mean SPRING RO
Reply:S L: If you have Hep C, I would think you would be more educated about it. Hep C is spread from blood to blood contact ONLY. It is NOT spread from sweat, saliva, semen, tears, vaginal secretions, or any other bodily fluids. Just blood. It takes DIRECT blood to blood contact to have any risk of contracting Hep C. It is NOT sexually transmitted either. The ONLY way to contract Hep C during sex is if blood is involved. I am not trying to be rude to you, but having Hep C myself, as well as my mother, I would think that you, a fellow hepper =), would have more knowledge about the subject. Especially being in the medical field as well. Anyway, to the asker, unless your friend is Hepatitis C positive and his blood was on the needle before he gave you the tattoo, you have nothing to worry about. You can get a Hep C panel to find out for sure, but your risk is slim to none. You CAN get Hep C from needles, but they have to be dirty needles. Meaning your Hep C positive friend had to get his blood on the needle first. The test does cost money unless you have insurance to cover it and since you are 18, you just have to tell the doctor's office or clinic that they can only release you medical information and test results to you. Good luck and if you have other questions, feel free to email me. springrose0920@yahoo.com I've lived with Hep C all my life, done years of research about the topic and talked with many specialists over the years.

EDIT: Like I said S L- The ONLY way to get Hep C during sex is if BLOOD is involved. My mom has been married to my DAD for 35 years. That means 35 years of sex and he HAS NOT contracted it. I have been with my HUSBAND for 6 years and he HAS NOT contracted it. Blood must be involved. Open your mind for a minute because I am no trying to argue with you. Consider this: In the years that you have been with your husband, have you had sex during your period? Has he ever been rough enough to make you bleed? Even if it was a tiny amount, that could have caused it. Also, has he ever used your razor? You don't have to use needles or get it through work....Also, there is less than a 5% chance that a mother will give it to her child during birth. That is how I got it. My 2 sisters don't have it. I also have a 2 year old son and he doesn't have it either. THAT is what my research tells me. I'm not sure what point you were trying to make when you mentioned the fact that I got it from my mom, but apparently it didn't work. Anything else you'd like to discuss, feel free to email me. I've talked with many Hep docs over the years and that is where I get my info from along with my own research. My mom's Hep C specialist is Dr. Bruce Bacon. (You know, the one that cleared Naomi Judd's Hep C, and my mother's as well). I will believe anything he tells me over what you say any day. =)

EDIT 2: Thank you Bayla and PeachStatePam! I appreciate your input. S L: I really hope you take into account the things these 2 ladies have told you. You really need to educate yourself about your own disease because spreading false information is not helping anybody. It is hurting everyone out there that is infected with HCV.
Reply:Spring Rose, Bayla, %26amp; Peach State Pam, you guys rock! People need to know this information. You are 100% correct. There is absolutely nothing I can add to your responses except the links for the information. Best wishes.
Reply:Get tested no matter what if you have Real concerns for your heath. If you fear Hep C. you also need to realize that its not curable and can effect others if they come in contact with your blood and some of your other body fluids. Since you are 18 you should not need an adult consent. There are free clinics in your City somewhere.

What tattoo did you get?
Reply:I too was exposed to hepatitis C and it totally freaked me out. I am a nurse, so I could not tell anyone and my testing had to be totally confidential.

Call your local health department and find out if they will do a confidential screening. They may not if you live in a small county, but they can refer you to someone who will test you and give you a confidential result.
Reply:Good Lord! I never saw nasty stuff on yahoo answers before. SL..you are so WRONG about what you say.

The NEW OLD NEWS is that ANYONE that EVER had a tattoo should get tested!

Salvia as a way to spead HCV? your kidding right?

Get the FACTS RIGHT..why would you give false info..do not reply to me, as I have NO time for uglyness or anger

I LOVE CINDY :%26gt; ok..so we like to work together...xxxxooo
Reply:OH MY! This thread got a little out of hand didn't it? First off to answer Bucket's question (and I don't see that he ever mentioned that his friend HAD Hep C just that he wanted to be tested) - everyone SHOULD be tested for Hep C whether they have a risk factor or not. 4 million people (at least) are walking around with it and don't know they have it because there are not any symptoms. What state do you live in? Some states have Viral Hepatitis Coordinators at their State Health Departments that can provide you with a Home Access test kit that is anonymous and confidential and free. Or if you have $60 you can purchase a kit from online and then call in for your results in a few weeks. That is the first test (ELISA/RIBA) that most people get but then you have to do a follow up EXPENSIVE test called a PCR to find out if you have an actual VIRAL LOAD. You can test positive for Hepatitis C, have the antibodies, but might have cleared the virus on your own (about 30% of people do). Also as someone else suggested your county Health Dept is a good place to start and if you are 18 everything is confidential) If your friend did have Hep C than he/she would have had to either bled INTO the tattoo ink (yes Hep C can live in the ink and on many types of surfaces for up to 4 days) or stuck himself with the needle before he stuck you. Spring Rose and Bayla have given you some excellent education about Hep C. I am shocked that SL doesn't seem to know more since both she and her husband are infected with it. One would think they would educate themselves more about it since they have it! Is SL's husband blaming her for his Hep C because he is saying he got it from having sex with her? That would be a sad and INCORRECT situation! SL even said herself that Hep C is spread by blood (see below) but then seemed to change her mind about it. The guilt your husband is causing you to feel must be overwhelming! Please get some better education and throw the jerk out if he is trying to blame you! Studies indicate in monagomous relationships the incidence of possible sexual transmission is less than 1% but again BLOOD TO BLOOD would have to be involved! Is your husband cheating on you and having bloody sex with someone else? Is he snorting drugs and not telling you? Has he had a pedicure? A haircut at a barbershop? Was he in the military? Did he pick up a bloody kleenex you left lying around?

SL said *you are NOT automatically infected just because the person has it...you must do something to get that person blood into your system.

PSPam said -(THAT IS THE KEY SL - YOU MUST DO SOMETHING TO GET THAT PERSON"S BLOOD INTO YOUR BLOOD SO THE SEX WOULD HAVE TO BE BLOODY AS WELL)

SL said -And I sure would hope that your friend would be professional at his/her art, if not then what the heck do you let he/she give you something so permanent?

PSPam said - (HEPATITIS C CAN LIVE IN THE INK!)

SL said - UMMM spring ro.... why don't you tell my HUSBAND that then...

PSPam said -(MANY OF US WOULD BE HAPPY TO TELL YOUR HUSBAND THAT - PUT HIM IN TOUCH WITH US!) SL said -because he's isn't and wasn't a needle user

PSPam said -(MANY OF US NEVER USED A NEEDLE) ,

SL Said -never exposed to it work wise...and yet he still has it...

PSPam said -(30% HAVE NO IDEA WHERE THEY GOT IT and MANY PEOPLE LIE ABOUT SNORTING A DRUG OR INJECTING A DRUG EVEN ONCE or forgot that they did years ago AS WELL AS A MYRIAD OF OTHER RISK FACTORS - SEE BELOW)

SL said - oh and btw...sorry that you got it from your mother...thank god my kids didn't...wonder why that is? PSPam said -(BECAUSE IF YOU WOULD READ AND EDUCATE YOURSELF VERTICAL TRANSMISSION (MOTHER TO CHILD) ONLY HAPPENS IN LESS THAN 5% OF CASES AND AGAIN THAT IS BECAUSE THERE WAS A BLOOD TO BLOOD TRANSMISSION DURING BIRTH)

SL said -I sure had it when I was pregnant with both of them.... what does your research have to say about that?...NOT trying to be rude,

PSP said -(THEN WHY ARE YOU BEING RUDE?)

but until you really know the facts as most doctors do, please do not tell people that you can't get it from sex....because my husband is proof you sure can...

PSP said -(OH MY HERE WE GO AGAIN - YOUR HUSBAND IS NOT PROOF THAT IT IS SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED, A GREAT MANY DOCTORS ARE STILL QUITE IGNORANT ABOUT THE FACTS THEMSELVES, YOU NEED TO EDUCATE YOURSELF MORE SL AND YES DR. BACON IS ONE OF THE LEADING HEPATOLOGISTS IN THE COUNTRY AND I WOULD CERTAINLY PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO ANYTHING HE HAS TO SAY BECAUSE HE WOULD BE CORRECT!)

SL said- I hope that you take this as constructive rebutal not anyway typed to be mean SPRING RO

PSP said -(SOUNDED A TAD MEAN TO ME SL - WHY DON'T YOU GOOGLE HEPATITIS C AND GETS SOME REAL FACTS BEFORE YOU TRY TO ANSWER SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT IT. THERE IS NOTHING CONSTRUCTIVE ABOUT YOUR REBUTTAL BECAUSE YOU ARE IGNORANT ABOUT YOUR OWN DISEASE! )

ALSO SL - IF YOU HAVE HEP C AND EVER BLED ONTO A KLEENEX AND YOUR HUBBY CAME BY DAYS LATER AND PICKED IT UP WITH A CUT ON HIS HAND THAT IS A BLOOD TO BLOOD TRANSMISSION!
