I told the doctor I wanted an HIV test but I got the results today and it says Test Name: Hepatitis C Antibody

Did they make a mistake and tested me for something else? It says "Negative, No Hepatitis C". Is it the same thing? I'm really upset because I was looking forward to having sex without a condom next weekend with my girlfriend and now I might have to get tested again and make sure they do the right test for HIV. They must have been drunk!

First, you should ask your doctor if he did test your blood HIV. Second, some doctors might test all the STDs including HIV and Hepatitis A, B, C, Syphilis etc. Hepatitis C neg means only Hepatitis C antibody is negative. This doesn't mean HIV is negative. Sometimes, it shows as Non-reactive instead of negative. it's the same non reactive and negative. Talk to your doctor and ask clearly. He/she won't kick you out of the office. If not, you can go to the Free HIV testing clinic and get tested, only 20 minutes to know the result. Find out these clinics in your local or local/state department of health websites.

How safe your gf is from HIV/other Stds.

Don't ever try sex without condoms even if you know she is virgin. Some get HIV when they were born, some get through blood transfusion, some get from wound and cut or accident. You never know if the person is clean from STDs or not by looking their figure. HIV person doesn't have extra head, leg or body. You should always be careful even using condoms. Good Luck.
Reply:no, not the same thing! Get re-tested, and make them pay for it! good luck!
Reply:First, Hepatitis is a very infectious disease that can permanently damage the liver. It can be transmitted sexually. So knowing you don't have it is a good thing.

Next, an HIV test only tells you that ON THE DATE you had the test, you were negative. If you've had sex since then without a condom, you could now be negative. Remember that a test is only valid on the day it is taken.

Finally, you should not have sex without a condom unless you have had a vasectomy, or your girlfriend has had her tubes tied. No other form of birth control is 100% effective, so you still run the risk of pregnancy.
Reply:well the ezet thing to do is get retested and if your worried awnser me this

did u do it more than once

did she do it more than once

if it was no on both u cant get HIV/AIDS

but still i get tested there are 100000000+ ways to get it so i still think testing again is safer
Reply:you should always wear a condom every time..good luck 2 u..be safe
Reply:It is not the same thing, yet similar. When you ask to be tested for HIV, they typically will test you for HEP C as well.

Still, when you get around to getting it on... use a condom.
Reply:No, Hepatitis C is not the same as HIV. You are right in wanting to take this test before you and your girlfreind expose urselves in such a way to eachother, however u must be aware that obviously there are other threats besides HIV. Have ur doctor run the correct test this time (and if your insurance doesnt cover it, the doctors office should as it was his error). I undersatnd your anxienty to not want to wait all over again but be patient and do not take notice of the answer above.... there are other ways of contracting HIV, including during birth itself. Good luck and good job on doing the responsible thing.
