I just bought a mare 18 years old. plus her colt three months.c test was neg. i have the land. now what?

When the colt is old enough start training...it seems like the mother is a little too old to do anything with but if she is still in good shape then train her too. And train them both in something you need, like if you want to show or you just want to trail ride, or you need something that'll cut cattle...make them useful. It also depends on what breed you got, that'll depend on what kind of work they'll be able to do

Reply:You decide. If you bought these horses you must have some idea of what you want to do with them. What breed are they? If race-prospects(since this is in the racing section), do you intend to breed the mare again? If so you need to decide on a stud and make the arrangements. If she is not in foal currently you want her to be bred as early as possible (although when exactly would depend on which hemisphere you are in). Do you plan to race your own horses or are you breeding to sell? Do you want to keep the colt or sell him and if so when? It is very common to sell young horses as yearlings or two year olds in training. You'll need to find a consignment company you want to work with or a farm that will sales prep him.





They questions multiply if your intentions are not for racing. Horses have many functions and only you can decide what direction to take these two in.
