Can a teacher say to the the other students who got an A, B, C, D , or an F on a test?

It wasn't a state test...

Can a teacher say to the the other students who got an A, B, C, D , or an F on a test?
Teachers should just say "about 10 people got Bs... Only 5 people got As..." ETC

They shouldn't tell the student who got what. It's their score, and they should have a choice to let people know or not.
Reply:I think this is a violation of privacy and pretty poor policy on the teacher's part. I have seen grades listed by student ID number outside the classroom door, but I even thought that was tacky--because everyone could figure it out. I have heard 5 people got A's, 3 got B's...etc..that is pretty anonymous and lets everyone know how they did as a class. I think that is ok.

If students were singled out and if it were done maliciously, I'd go to the teacher (or another teacher) and say that your feelings were hurt by this and felt it was very demotivating. It just isn't a kind thing for the teacher to do.

Good luck to you!
Reply:No teachers are not allowed to release information about grades to anyone but the student or their parents/guardians.
Reply:Technically no, it's privacy matter and can be taken to court.

Colleges are not allowed to discuss grades with Parents or Spouses.
Reply:Don't go there !
Reply:It depends on where you go to school. Where I am, its a violation of privacy. Only parents can know what testing scores are. If you don't like how your instructor treats you or feel as if he is trying to humiliate you, have a talk with the teacher and if it cannot get solved that way, talk to the principal if you can do that or a counselor, if that fails, go to your parents and tell them you have a situation you feel the school cannot resolve and you need help.
Reply:Personally its bad form on the part of the teacher. I am not sure on the laws or rules involved but personally I would be pissed. Talk to administration and see what they say. Worst thing they can say is YES THEY CAN!
Reply:I think there aloud to say who got an A
Reply:THEY DO, BUT I DONT THINK IT RIGHT.........

THEY SHOULDNT......
Reply:i think no.. but if i were you i would contact the principal, or dean, or whoever is in charge....

Reply:Whether or not it is against the rules or not is not even the true issue. You have to consider what your revealing a child's grade could do to his/her self-esteem. I have known children that make A's and don't want them announced for fear of more ridicule from other kids about their "nerdiness". Or if they are upset about their grade because they got a B, and other students make fun of them because they are upset but got a "good" grade. Even kids that "always" get bad grades can be hurt by this kind of announcement.

Your job is to teach and nurture the students, not give them ammo against each other.
Reply:yes.. but it is very good practise.

Your teacher is trying to motivate the weaker students by making them embarassed of their marks.

Very lame.. it is banned at my school as parents complained. I would never do something like this to my students. I don't even use a red pen, so it is more difficult for their neighbours to see what marks they received. Have your parents or yourself talk with the principal if you feel uncomfortable.
Reply:No. It is a violation of confidentiality and unprofessional.
Reply:Theres nothing that says they cant.. maybe if the teacher is in a bad mood they will. Most teachers ask before they read them off though.
