How do I run a vacuum test on refrigeration line of my A/C unit?

They make a small pump that will pull a vaccum on the line but if the system is charged any at all with freon that would not be good for the little pump.

if the system is loosing charge then you need to charge the system with the die laced freon ,which should be red. the leak will show its ugly head and you can go on with the repair.

most of the time it's just a fitting

How do I run a vacuum test on refrigeration line of my A/C unit?
One of two ways. 1) use a 5cfm vacuum pump in conjunction with refrigeration gauges. Hook your hoses up red to high pressure (small line), and blue to low pressure (large line) and yellow to pump. Open gauges and turn on pump. Let run till needle on low pressure gauge reaches 30" of vacuum. Close gauges and wait at least 30 min. to determine if vacuum holds. Needle should not move.
Reply:The last thing you want to do is run a vacuum test. All that it will tell you is that you have a leak but not where. Electronic leak detecter will pinpoint the leak.
Reply:you need a vacuum pump and a set of gauges. you have to recover the refrigerant if there is any which you have to be certified for. pay an hvac tech to come out for a 100 bucks and fix your problem.
