If you are wating for HPV test results (b/c of an abnormal pap smear, they did follow up) would you stop ttc?

I want to have a baby, but now I have to wait one to two weeks for results to know if I have hpv and, if so, is it high or low risk. If it's high risk, the doctor said there are treatment options, so I don't know if I should wait to get pregnant till all this is overwith (I hope!) or not... Thanks.

Reply:For anyone reading this later, the hpv test came back negative for both low-risk and high-risk hpv and the doc said we can ttc again now. Report It

Reply:I would wait, because much of the treatment options they give you will come in the form of prescription drugs, and what your doctor can use to treat it will be limited if you are pregnant. If the treatment options are long term, discuss with your doctor that you're trying to conceive so that you can have an appropriate treatment plan. You shouldn't have to put off for a long time, but 1-2 weeks isn't that long to wait, and there's a lot of potential benefit.
Reply:Of course you should wait. HPV is serious and some kinds can cause cervical and other types of cancer. Now, I'm not trying to freak you out, but you should really just wait until you have more information. Getting pregnant and then finding out you have HPV could be complicated, and I would hope that you don't want to risk harming a potential child in any way. Good luck and I hope it works out for you.
Reply:your abnormal pap may require procedures that can not be done if your pregnant (wether or not hpv is the culprit). you will need to wait until you have a normal re pap. they usually retest within 6 mos.
Reply:I personally would wait. For more information of HPV go to www.hpv.com and read through the whole site. There are some risks (albeit low risks) to a baby if you have low risk HPV. Get yourself educated before ttc. Good luck!
